Local Services for self-referral

Self referral

Most referrals to other specialists will require you seeing or speaking with a GP, however, there are a number of services locally that you are able to make self-referrals to.

Community Pharmacists

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer clinical advice, over the counter medicines and their use, to effectively and safely manage a range of minor health concerns. They can also help you to decide whether you'll need to see a doctor. You don't need an appointment and you won't even be asked to make a purchase. Every pharmacy also has a private consultation area for you to talk about your symptoms in private if you prefer.

The community pharmacy teams can now prescribe antibiotics if appropriate for the following conditions:

  • Earache
  • Impetigo (skin infections)
  • Infected insect bites
  • Shingles
  • Sinus pain
  • Sore throat
  • Urinary tract infections

Please visit the NHS website to see if you fit this criteria and for further information on what they can help with.
